ROY BOVA - Founder/CEO

Roy, an avid sports fan and athlete himself, is the founder and CEO of Class Athlete, Inc., creating the youth sports organization eight years ago, attempting to create an outlet in the Casselberry/Winter Springs/Oviedo community for positivity, family, academics and athletics.   Most know him as a passionate fan who loves his Pittsburgh Steelers.

His dream was realized in the first season back in 2008, with 59 student athletes competing in flag football, and 6 cheerleaders including his own daughter, who was 7 at the time.   Soccer was then introduced as well as basketball and followed by indoor soccer.

Eight years later, Roy now enjoys the sight of seasons that hover around 1,000 student athletes, with thousands of family and friends joining him every Saturday to give our athletes a safe and positive place to learn and have fun.  Class Athlete has also run summer camps for the last 5 years and recently introduced it’s first after school program in August of 2016.

He has coached over roughly 100 teams and about 1000 student athletes over the last eight years in soccer, flag football, and basketball.

He continues to strive toward his ultimate goal of having a facility in Seminole County where student athletes can come to learn, be tutored, do homework and then play sports in a safe, fun and positive environment.  A place where parents can enjoy physical activity and their own sports while their child is practicing and playing themselves.

Over the last 8 years, he has watched his daughter, who is now 15 years old, blossom into an excellent soccer player and an even better person.  She now works for Class Athlete and helps coach and teach the younger age groups.  He hopes to one day hand the reins of this blossoming business to her.

ALBERT EDWARDS III - Football/Basketball Director

Albert's love for sports started as a child playing football and basketball.  This passion has carried over to playing in adult leagues which is where Roy Bova and Albert met.  After working in graphic design for 18 years, his love of sports and his desire to be a good role model for kids of all ages has led him to a full time commitment to Class Athlete.  When not on the field or on the court, you can find Albert spending time with his wife Kendal and children (Marquis, 26; Marissa, 22; Jaylyn, 7; Jaciya, 3), watching his favorite sports on tv, or playing video games.

Over the last 8 years, Albert has coached basketball and flag football from ages ranging 5 to 14 years.  His dedication to his teams is evident by his whole family approach.  He creates teams that become families, where players respect each other regardless of what the scoreboard says.

"Coach Albert personifies the class in Class Athlete. He coaches, refs, and manages his sports with the patience of a saint. He does all this barely above a whisper and with all his heart, thereby earning the respect of all who play for him. Once you are on his team (even if for just a season) he is your coach for life." - Lisa Bast

"In all the years my boys have been participating in youth sports, I have never found a coach that takes such a personal interest in the success of his players both on and off the field. I have watched in admiration, as Albert has guided and helped shape many amazing children into both talented athletes and wonderful contributors to our community. My hope, is that the bond that has formed between Coach and my two boys, will last as they mature into young men, giving them a role model that possesses qualities such as pride in themselves, love for family, commitment for community and passion for helping children. We were blessed when Coach Albert came into our lives." - Heather Sidders

KELLY MAWHINNEY - After School Director

As a single mom of two great sons who began playing sports with Class Athlete at its inception, sports and homework come second nature to me.  My sons have grown up playing soccer, flag football, indoor soccer and basketball under some of the greatest coaches imaginable including two of my teammates here at Class Athlete, Coach Roy and Coach Albert.  I was looking for positive male role models for my boys and in addition found a community of friends, mentors and teammates for all three of us.

My degree is in Early Childhood Education along with 15 years of teaching in Kindergarten and First Grade.  As a teacher, I saw students who were sitting most of the day completing work that seems to get harder and harder every year.  As a mom, I saw active boys who sat all day and then had hours of homework they didn’t seem to remember how to do.  The start of Class Athlete’s Afterschool program was the perfect opportunity to blend my career with my life experience as a mom.  Our goal is to ensure every child reads 20 minutes, completes their homework, nourishes their body with snacks and then takes on sports training to get their bodies moving.  Class Athlete taught my boys to win with pride in having done their best and to lose with their heads held high.  From putting school before athlete and working as a team before showing off just their skills, my mission as a mom is being accomplished and I am excited to help other parents and families do the same.

STUART HUFF - Soccer Director
